Be human ; Be beautiful
“O, beware, my lord, of jealousy;
It
is the green-ey’d monster, which doth mock
The
meat it feeds on; ………………
Oh,
misery!”
Othello:
Act 3, Scene 3.
The hardest task for a human being in today’s world is;
to make someone smile. To appreciate the able, to embrace the feeble and to speak
a word that can make a struggling soul bask in the glory of sunshine. Take a
moment and watch. All that is left around us is; jealousy, hatred, insolence
and ingratitude. No doubt the blemishes
define an individual as much as does his beauty but, you will always find
yourself surrounded by people who have enough time to pick on your flaws and
none at all to appreciate your gifts. They don’t see them. If they do, your
skill is a triviality. The plan, always, is to make you feel small. While you try to figure out ‘why’, please keep
smiling and slaughter the plan!
It takes a heart, a
big one, to make someone feel good about his existence and his achievements but,
the battle for power and currency has ominously consumed the very essence of
our being and there is no chance ever given to the heart, to speak! All that
matters is the contest, the hunger to have it all. Weird, that this luminous
boulevard of fame and cash hasn’t been a pal to anyone! It has insatiable greed
at its every step. You will run the race with all your power but you will never
win it! That is the chutzpah, greed brings along; never has it sated an
appetite! And, one day when the lights will go off (they go off for everyone,
my friend), the blur of the boulevard will lead you to the dark alleys of life
where you might find yourself standing alone. To have it all and to have nought!
Unnerving.
According to Socrates, ‘Satisfaction is rust’ but, the
philosopher’s thought is no Gospel truth. For a believer, satisfaction is peace
and harmony, an end to the conflict within. In order to live a good life, one
must be content with whatever little he has. Look around and; it is always a
lot and never little! Insight is all that makes life easy or tough. It is necessary
to be content with life as contentment brings joy and only a glad heart is free
of animosity, fosters compassion, smiles and makes everyone else do the same. This
exuberance of life is however, a task for the thankless. Stand up, wink at the
Sun, blow a kiss to Moon, embrace the breeze and say ‘thank You’.
Compassion, as is said, comes free of cost but it can make a
sizable change. Express, smile at a child and watch your heart melt under the
beam of immeasurable affection he radiates. Value that affection. Man is bound
to love and he must nurture relationships. He mustn’t be passionate.
If he isn't, hatred and jealousy is all that will surround him all his life. Too
much of philosophy? May be. But, this is what I observe on daily basis and my
soul saddens when every day, all I notice is; we do not think for a second
before hurling abuses but, it takes us ages to pay a compliment, to tell a man
how startlingly good-looking he is! We judge and debate the dress code of a
woman but, we keep away from telling her, how immensely talented she is! It
always feels supreme to issue directives to children but we hesitate in telling
a special one, what a prodigy he is! Why? While programming our hearts to be in
agreement with our materialistic needs, have we caged our souls behind the bars
of jealousy and hatred?
As the cliché (this one is actually the only truth of life)
goes, we live only once, and this life is too small for jealousy,
hatred and ingratitude. Love and compassion make it a lifetime of bliss. It is a lovely world and being alive is a treasure. Take some (as
much as you can) time out from the mechanical regime; call someone beautiful,
cuddle a child, be a shoulder to lean on, appreciate and embrace. Cart off the
bars of the loathsome cage and set yourself free.
There you have it! People, all set to take a walk into the greens
of your heart. No one wants to sit on a throne, a calm corner will do!
