My Oasis,My Room!

As I open the door after a tumultous day , the pale-yellow walls brighten up and spread their arms to embrace me.The passionate red and gold drapes swirl and sway and share my laughter and with the same undeterring loyalty they absorb my tears whenever my eyes get moist.
These tiny things lying here and there dance with me when I tap my feet and they go in deep lull as I start bonding with Chemistry! Punology :P
As I whisper my deepest secrets to these fluffy pillows,my bed holds me tight and loves me like a princess. Such relief that I unwind and wake up even more confident ready to face the storm and take the stride like a golden bird. Yes after a thorny day I blossom like a rose and life is pink again.
This, my oak cupboard has my treasure,my friends in solitude,my books :) And on its left lies the chamber of my pastels that throws itself open and adorns me every morning as I step out to emerge as a strong and powerful woman.
Oh! The mirror in the dressing corner. My magic wand ;) Every time I see through it, it winks at me and fills my heart with the promise of fulfilling all my dreams. Salud!
The undying ambience holds me straight as I tend to trip and it keeps me grounded on those cheerful days when I want to fly and touch the sky.
 It knows all my secrets as it has been with me at the time of all my joys,my sorrows and my struggles.
Ah! What do I do without you!

Jaz'rah

My niece,  Jaz'rah Jahangir Makhdoomi was born on December 5, 2014 at 7:33 in the evening. She was brought out of the operation theatre around 8:00 pm and her cradle looked tiny in front of the oxygen cylinder supporting her respiration. Jaz'rah, at the time of her birth was sick. However , when I first looked at her, I saw a twinkle in her eyes that promised life. Her eyes were gleaming and the sparkle was that of a fighter, the sparkle that spoke of survival. I knew she'll fight and she'll live. Jaz'rah, less of a princess and more of a warrior , gave us the hope that she'll make it to our arms. Half an hour after her birth, she was shifted from Modern Hospital to G.B.Pant Children's Hospital and she remained on the life-support for one week in the NICU and for the other week she recupirated in Ward nos 8 and 9. She fought for her life for 15 days; too long a period for a newborn. I would visit her everyday and the twinkle in her eyes never disappointed ...

August 25, 2019 Dull sunny afternoon Kashmir I was barely making it through the 20th day of curfew when a riotous noise in my neighborhood dragged me to the rear window of my room this morning. I saw a cheerful group of 10-12 children, shouting and screaming a plot to each other and I settled myself by the sill and cupped my face in my hands. They were carrying sticks and handkerchiefs in their tiny hands and I could easily comprehend the nature of the upcoming theatrics. After all, what else could the childhood of conflict ridden children look like, even if it unfolds itself in the poetic countryside set up! Freckled, light-haired members of one sub-group held their ‘pellet-guns’, they had beforehand crafted out of aged sun-dried sticks, with a great deal of expertise in their hands and equally freckled and light-haired children of the other sub-group hastily tied their handkerchiefs around their faces.
